University Nameplate Unveiling Ceremony
On Friday, April 1, 2022, Osaka Metropolitan University held unveiling ceremonies for the entrance nameplates of the Sugimoto and Nakamozu campuses. In attendance were University Chairperson Yoshiki Nishizawa, President Masahiro Tatsumisago, and student representatives, Ms. Sarara Tsujimoto (a first-year student at the College of Sustainable System Sciences) and Ms. Mizuki Azuma (a first-year master’s student at the Graduate School of Human Life and Ecology).
The ceremonies began with the unveiling of the University’s new nameplates, followed by photo sessions with the nameplates. In his remarks, President Tatsumisago noted “Today, Osaka Metropolitan University opens. Osaka Prefecture University and Osaka City University will remain until their respective students graduate. This means the three universities will co-exist for several years. It is my great pleasure to hold this unveiling ceremony today to commemorate our new beginning.”
This was followed by a speech by Chairperson Nishizawa, who said “The merger of the two universities is just the start, not the goal. While various issues are likely to arise, university faculty and staff members will tackle them together and strive to offer the best education and research environment to all students.” This address concluded the ceremonies.
