Special Lecture by Professor Andreas Dengel of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI)
On June 14, 2023, Professor Andreas Dengel of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), Distinguished Honorary Professor at Osaka Prefecture University, gave a special lecture at the Nakamozu Campus.
Together with Professor Koichi Kise of the Graduate School of Informatics, DFKI and OMU have been cooperating in basic and applied research in artificial intelligence and human resource exchange for more than 25 years. In 2022, they signed a cooperation agreement and opened the first DFKI Lab Japan outside Germany at the university.
In his lecture titled "AI between Science and Fiction," Professor Dengel explained that “AI is not a machine with the same capabilities as humans, but has the potential to become a digital partner that enriches our ability to think.” The lecture was followed by a lively Q&A session between the participating students and the professor.
On the same day, Professor Dengel paid a courtesy visit to Chairperson Shinichi Fukushima at the Abeno campus. Also present were Professor Koichi Kise and Specially Appointed Professor Shoya Ishimaru.
Professor Dengel stated, "Through DFKI Lab Japan, we would like to further expand our good cooperation with Japanese universities, research institutions and companies.” Chairperson Fukushima welcomed the visit saying, "I look forward to the continuation of joint research between our university and DFKI and to long-term cooperation in areas such as technology development and human resources development.”
