On June 22, 2023, a commemorative lecture was held at the Sugimoto Campus to mark the 10th anniversary of the Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis (ReCAP) at OMU. At the same time, a kick-off symposium was held for the ‘Joint Usage/Research Center for Catalysis (JURCC)’ which was approved by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), as a Joint Usage/ Research Center.

The lecture opened with an address by President Masahiro Tatsumisago, who participated online. He congratulated ReCAP on 10 years of research achievements and expressed his hope for further development in the future. In his commemorative lecture, Professor Yasushi Sekine of Waseda University presented on "Future Energy and Materials toward Achieving 2050 Carbon Neutrality," which was followed by a lively Q&A session. Professor Yutaka Amao, Director of ReCAP, then spoke on "Ten Years of Progress and Future Prospects." thanking the audience for their continued support and cooperation over the years.

The second part was the kick-off symposium of the Joint Usage/Research Center for Catalysis (JURCC), where Professor Kenichi Shimizu, Director of the Hokkaido University Institute for Catalysis presented on all the research centers and then professors from the Hokkaido University Institute for Catalysis and ReCAP presented on their latest research.

The event culminated with a lively exchange of views for future research from the participants, both in-person and online.
