On October 25, 2023, a 29-member delegation led by Malu Dreyer, Minister President of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, visited OMU. President Dreyer was accompanied by Astrid Schmitt, Vice President of the State Parliament, Heike Raab, State Secretary, Melanie Saxinger, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Osaka-Kobe, and Professor Andreas Dengel, Executive Director of DFKI, and Distinguished Honorary Professor of Osaka Prefecture University.

After the opening remarks by OMU President Masahiro Tatsumisago and Minister President Dreyer, the delegation visited DFKI Lab Japan and the R&D Center for the Plant Factory at the Nakamozu Campus. At the DFKI Lab Japan, Specially Appointed Professor Shoya Ishimaru, Specially Appointed Assistant Professor Andrew Vargo, and Professor Koichi Kise shared insights into their joint research with DFKI Germany on the effective use of AI for human learning and medical care. At the R&D Center for the Plant Factory, participants were briefed on lettuce cultivation technology using artificial photosynthesis and even got to taste the harvested lettuce.

After the tour of the facilities, OMU Vice Presidents explained the status of academic exchange between OMU and Germany, the cooperation with DFKI, and the Innovation Academy project that OMU is promoting. During lunch, Mr. Hiroshi Ichisaka, Senior Executive Director of International Relations, Osaka Prefectural Government, gave an overview of Osaka Prefecture, introduced the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan, and expressed his high expectations for OMU and Osaka in the future.

Moving forward, OMU aims to strengthen cooperation with DFKI and deepen exchanges not only in the field of research but also in other fields.
