On October 5, 2023, a delegation from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, led by Dr. Lucia Rizka Andalucia, Director General of Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices, visited the Graduate School of Medicine, OMU. The delegation paid a courtesy visit to Professor Norifumi Kawada, Dean of the Graduate School of Medicine, and Professor Hisashi Motomura, Chair of the International Affairs Committee of the Graduate School of Medicine, and then toured the Osaka Metropolitan University Hospital.

The delegation's visit was a result of a visit made by Dean Kawada to the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in September 2023.

Upon their arrival on the campus, Dean Kawada and Professor Motomura welcomed the delegation in the reception room where they gave an overview of the Graduate School of Medicine and then showed an introductory video of the institution. The delegation then proceeded to the university hospital where they toured the MR linear accelerator, the surgical rooms, and various hospital rooms. Unfortunately, they were unable to tour the hybrid surgical room, as it was in operation, but instead they watched a video presentation on the same.

Dr. Andalucia shed some light on the healthcare situation in Indonesia stating that, “there is a shortage of specialty hospitals and specialists in Indonesia, especially in rural areas far from the cities. We would like to improve the training of medical specialists in the future. We are also interested in advanced medical technology and expanding international exchange.”

Indonesia, which partners with many universities, is actively expanding its contacts with Japan and remains an important partner for OMU. We hope to continue strengthening our exchanges with Indonesia in the future.
