Indonesian delegation from East Java visits for mass transit, smart city workshop
A delegation of 21 members from Indonesia’s East Java Provincial Legislative Council visited the Nakamozu Campus on April 22, 2024, to participate in a workshop focused on public transportation and smart cities. The workshop was conducted in two parts.
In the first part, dedicated to transit-oriented development (TOD), Project Professor Yuta Hirayama delivered a lecture on the fundamentals of TOD. This was followed by a presentation by Mr. Toru Kusama, senior general manager of the Urban Management Division at Hankyu Hanshin Properties Corp., titled “Initiatives of Hankyu Hanshin Properties - From the view of TOD," during which he discussed development along railway lines.
The second part of the workshop addressed Japan’s smart city initiatives. Project Professors Hironobu Azuma and Hirayama gave lectures on the relationship between smart cities and urban sustainability. The session featured a lively Q&A session discussing how Japan’s approaches could be integrated into Indonesia’s development. This led to a meaningful exchange of ideas regarding urban challenges from physical, economic, social, and environmental perspectives.
