More than two dozen members of Thailand’s Srinakharinwirot University, including President Dr. Somchai Santiwatanakul, visited the Sugimoto Campus on July 19, 2024, to meet Vice President Toshiyuki Matsui and Law School Professor Fumio Nagai.

While the university known as SWU is already an academic partner of OMU, the Thai delegation sought to further deepen ties and expand educational exchanges.

Vice President Matsui echoed those thoughts during his introduction of OMU.

“We would like to increase the number of students from Thailand,” said Professor Matsui, who is officially the vice president of international affairs, entrepreneurship and innovation development.

Then Thai studies expert Professor Nagai gave a presentation, beginning with an explanation in Thai, a language he is fluent in from his extensive experiences in Thailand.

Continuing in English, Professor Nagai spoke about the Annual Conference of The Japanese Society of Thai Studies he recently organized on July 6-7 at the Sugimoto Campus, which was also attended by Vice President Matsui. He also briefly talked about several other Thai studies experts at OMU.

The SWU delegation then presented their university information video, showing how the educational institution with over 29,000 students has increased its presence in not only Thailand, but also in Asia.

President Dr. Somchai Santiwatanakul then spoke about SWU, from its carbon neutrality aims to its capacity in areas such as law and nursing, hoping to expand memorandums of understanding with OMU.

Before a brief discussion to wrap up the meeting, Associate Professor Poom Moolsilpa, S.J.D., the dean of SWU’s Faculty of Social Sciences, mentioned the 3,300 students enrolled in his faculty and the 16 doctoral students from the social management course that were part of the delegation.

He concluded his remarks by declaring, “We are looking forward to more collaboration with your university.”
