Department of Nutrition hosts students from Universiti Putra Malaysia

A delegation of 20 undergraduate students and a professor from the Universiti Putra Malaysia visited the School of Human Life and Ecology’s Department of Nutrition on October 4, 2024. The visit was part of the Kakehashi: Japan Cultural Exchange program, and consisted of a tour of the Sugimoto Campus, knowledge exchange session, and food tasting.

Dean Michihiko Tokoro opened the program with a welcome speech. The delegation then took a tour of the Media Center rooftop and cafeteria, and several facilities in the School of Human Life and Ecology building.

Further, an OMU X UPM: Knowledge Exchange Session with presentations and discussions on food culture from both universities was held. The diversity of Malaysian food culture and approaches to nutritional issues provided many opportunities to learn from one another.

After a full day of activities, the participants settled down for a taste-testing session in cooperation with Osaka-based Fuji Oil Co., Ltd. A brief overview of the company and its production processes were presented and participants tasted plant-derived “shrimp” broth, “fond de veau”, “tonkotsu (pork bone broth flavor)” ramen, and soba.

The program ended with the hope for further exchanges in the future.
