DFKI Professor Andreas Dengel visits to further enhance OMU ties

Professor Andreas Dengel of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) visited Abeno Campus to hold talks with Vice President Hiroyuki Sakuragi and other officials on November 15, 2024.

OMU has had a deep cooperative relationship with DFKI for more than 25 years, involving basic and applied research in AI, and the exchange of students and researchers. OMU Professor Koichi Kise of the Graduate School of Informatics has been at the forefront of these exchanges, and in 2022, the two institutions signed a cooperation agreement and opened DFKI Lab Japan on the Nakamozu Campus, the first such laboratory outside Germany.

Professor Dengel discussed further international collaboration with Professor Kise and met Advisor to the President Masahide Takahashi.

Vice President Sakuragi expressed his pleasure at seeing Professor Dengel again for the first time since 2022 and his gratitude for DFKI’s contributions to OMU over the years. Further, Advisor to the President Takahashi introduced OMU’s future vision for international exchange.

Professor Dengel thanked OMU for cooperating with DFKI and exchanging students and researchers for so many years. He also expressed his thoughts on the challenges and advanced possibilities for further development, especially regarding artificial intelligence in medicine.

In December, an OMU research base will open within DFKI in Germany, fostering great expectations for the further strengthening of our collaboration.
