Medical × AI ASPIRE Program kicks off

The kickoff event for the Advanced International Collaborative Research Program (ASPIRE: Adopting Sustainable Partnerships for Innovative Research Ecosystem) was held at Abeno Harukas in Osaka on January 28, 2025. The event welcomed eight researchers from the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), including Professor Andreas Dengel. Over the course of two days, these researchers engaged in deepening academic exchanges with faculty members from the Graduate Schools of Medicine and Information Science at OMU.

This joint research project with DFKI is part of the ASPIRE for Top Scientists program, which provides funding of up to 500 million yen over five years.

The opening ceremony on the first day featured a welcome address from President Masahiro Tatsumisago, followed by speeches from Mr. Michael Jehle, the deputy head of mission of the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany Osaka-Kobe, and Professor Yasushi Yagi from Osaka University, who serves as the Program Officer (PO) for AI and Information in the ASPIRE program. They celebrated the launch of the program and expressed high expectations for its future achievements.

Following the ceremony, researchers from DFKI and OMU conducted research presentations, discussions, and group sessions.
