Rainy days couldn’t bring down the festive mood at the opening of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan on April 13, with Osaka Metropolitan University playing a role in brightening up the day.

Among the domestic pavilions at the Expo on man-made Yumeshima island is the Joint Pavilion Iida Group × Osaka Metropolitan University, sponsored by Tokyo-based housing firm Iida Group Holdings Co., Ltd. The pavilion opened with a special event to the delight of the crowd.

Not only did kabuki superstar Ichikawa Danjuro XIII and OMU Chairman Shinichi Fukushima help to illuminate the pavilion during the lighting ceremony, but the pavilion also received certificates from Guinness World Records.

Designed as a strip of “Sustainable Mobius” with the entire surface covered in Nishijin, a Kyoto specialty textile, the pavilion was certified as having the “largest building wrapped in Jacquard fabric” and the “largest roof in the shape of a fan.”

To commemorate the honor, a special Guinness World Records-related event will be held at the pavilion from May 3 to 6.

The Expo runs through October 13.
