Organic Letters journal cover depicts OMU research

Artwork for an OMU Graduate School of Science paper published in Organic Letters has been selected as the journal’s cover art.

The paper and artwork appear in Volume 27, Issue 14 of the journal. Lecturer Yunori Nishikawa, Assistant Professor Tomoki Tsuruta, Professor Yoshiki Morimoto and their colleague from the Shizuoka Institute of Science and Technology, Takashi Kamada, were among the researchers who wrote the paper “Asymmetric Total Synthesis of Isolinearol Using Low-Valence Titanium and Evaluation of Its Inhibitory Activity against Mussel Byssal Thread Formation.”

The sci-fi themed cover design likens the mussels in the research to giant battleships in space. The mussels are depicted firing threads that deflect off a barrier made from a compound synthesized by the researchers, express how the compound could protect the marine environment.
