The results of the joint research between Prof. Yutaka Amao and a research group led by Honda R&D have been featured on the cover of "New Journal of Chemistry"

A paper by Professor Yutaka Amao (Director, Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis) and a research group led by Honda R&D Co., Ltd., entitled "Electrocatalytic production of formaldehyde with formaldehyde dehydrogenase using a viologen redox mediator" appeared on the cover of the New Journal of Chemistry, published by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

e-fuels are carbon-neutral alternative fuels produced using renewable resources and can be stored as liquid or gaseous fuels. This research team aims to establish a method for biocatalyzing methanol, which is a representative of e-fuels, from carbon dioxide. In this research, we succeeded in developing an electrocatalytic production method to produce formaldehyde from formic acid. The design of the cover is inspired by a station that supplies e-fuels produced from carbon dioxide.
