Thirty-three students from the SSH Research Department of Kumamoto Prefectural Amakusa High School visited the Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis as part of the SSH Kansai training program

On Thursday, August 17, 2023, 33 students from the SSH Research Department of Kumamoto Prefectural Amakusa High School visited the Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis as part of the SSH Kansai Training.

First, Professor Yutaka Amao (Director,Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis), gave a lecture on the possibility of artificial photosynthesis technology for carbon neutrality. Next, the students were divided into three groups to discuss carbon neutrality, and Professor Amao answered questions such as "How to make the underground storage method that captures CO2 and buries it underground earthquake-resistant?", "How can coal liquefaction technology be more efficient?", and "What percentage of the total energy of solar power can be used for power generation?".

After that, we introduced various experimental equipment in the laboratory of the Biocatalyst Research Division.
