Kickoff Workshop Held in Taiwan to Accelerate International Collaborative Research on Artificial Photosynthesis
A kickoff workshop for the international joint research project on creating composite materials of photocatalysts and biocatalysts for carbon dioxide utilization was held at National Taiwan University on February 7, 2020. This workshop was organized following the acceptance of a research proposal by Professors Yutaka Amao, Director of the Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis, and Chia-Wen (Kevin) Wu of National Taiwan University under the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science's Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI) - Funding Program for Promoting International Joint Research (B).
Prior to the workshop, Yutaka Amao (Director, Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis), Yusuke Yamada (Professor, Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka City University), and iroyasu Tabe (Specially Appointed Lecturer, The OCU Advanced Research Institute for Natural Science and Technology), accompanied by Professor Chia-Wen (Kevin) Wu, visited The Center of Atomic Initiative for New Materials (AI-MAT), the sole research center of its kind at National Taiwan University. They exchanged information on artificial photosynthesis research with Center Director Li-Chyong Chen and Professor Chun-Wei Chen. Future plans include promoting research collaboration between AI-MAT and our Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis.
In the afternoon session of the workshop, Center Director Amao provided an overview of the project. Following this, presentations were given by Professor Yamada, Specially Appointed Lecturer Tabe, Professor Chi-Sheng Wu of National Taiwan University, and five other researchers. Lively discussions and debates ensued. Plans were announced for young researchers, including Specially Appointed Lecturer Tabe and graduate students, to conduct long-term research stays at each other's universities. The workshop concluded on a high note.
We anticipate that the Center for Artificial Photosynthesis will foster even stronger international collaborations and achieve new heights in its research endeavors.
