On Wednesday, July 3, 2019, Osaka City University signed a partnership agreement with the Osaka City Crisis Management Office, the Higashinari Ward Office of Osaka City, and Mitani Battery Technology Research Institute LLC (hereinafter referred to as "Mitani Battery") for demonstration experiments of storage batteries for disaster prevention, and held a signing ceremony.

At our university, the Center for Urban Disaster Prevention Education and Research (CERD) is actively engaged in regional disaster prevention activities through community disaster prevention classes and training of disaster prevention leaders in cooperation with multiple administrative districts in Osaka City.
Under this collaboration, Mitani Battery, a venture company originating from our university, will conduct a demonstration experiment from September this year to charge smartphones at evacuation centers in the event of a disaster using disaster storage batteries under development. As a result, it is expected to accelerate the R&D and practical application of Mitani Battery's storage batteries, and to promote safe and secure urban development in regional disaster prevention through the spread of safe disaster prevention storage batteries.
