A lecture titled "From Green Algae to Land Plants: Considering the Adaptation and Evolution of Photosystems to Light Environments" was held at the Research Center for Artificial Photosynthesis.
Starting from the background of being selected for a joint research project at the Joint Research Center for Catalytic Science and Measurement, the speaker gave an easy-to-understand presentation on the molecular evolution of light-harvesting systems from green algae to land plants, focusing on the role of chlorophyll b in photosynthesis. The presentation also touched on the grand scale of Earth's environment and photosynthetic organisms, such as how they survived the Snowball Earth event, and sparked lively discussions among the approximately 25 participants even after the lecture.
