Toxicology
Humans and animals take in various chemicals from eating, drinking, breathing, and skin. Some substances are nourishing and life-sustaining, while others are life-threatening and harmful. Excessive uptake can cause harmful effects, even if it is a vital substance. Toxicology aims to clarify how many different substances have harmful effects on humans and animals and how those effects occur. In addition, the clarification of harmful effects (toxicity) can indicate that ingestion of non-toxic amounts is safe. Therefore, the purpose of toxicology is not only to clarify toxicity, but also to show that it is safe.
